Nutritional Supplements

August 5, 2008

Many supplement formulators today have forgotten the important principle of the seven steps of nutrition.  They concoct their supplements without any thought of how to literally supplement the nutrition that the body’s cells receive.  To really nourish the body, the nutrients must not simply be ingested, but have to be digested and assimilated. It is on the cellular level that the body is nourished, regenerated and supplied with fuel for proper functioning.

It has become very popular throughout the world to add supplements to our diets and we have been conditioned by the media and the current health mentality to make sure that we take our vitamins every day.  The problem is that often a situation can be made worse if we are not taking the CORRECT type of supplements.  We need ones that have enzymes.  Enzymes are far more easily burned up and used up than vitamins and minerals. Every scientific manual that discusses vitamin biochemistry clearly spells out that vitamins are merely enzyme activators and catalysts. When vitamins are inside our body, they work only when in conjunction with specific enzymes.  Enzymes are the true stars, while vitamins and minerals are the support players.

Vitamins are co-enzymes that increase the rate and efficiency of enzyme productivity.   If all the necessary co-factors are not provided with any supplement itself, the supplement “leaches” the co-factors from our bodies, depriving us of the nutrient factors we already have in storage.  Our focus MUST be on cellular nutrition. There isn’t any other way to truly satisfy our body’s needs.

I’ll talk about a solution to this common problem in my upcoming blog.

Seven Steps of Nutrition

Standing up straight!

August 3, 2008

Standing up Straight?!?  What does this have to do with healthy living…well, let me explain.

First of all, many of us spend many hours sitting in front of our computer or in the car all day…slouching or hunching…this can cause muscles & ligaments to degenerate sooner and can lead to back pain & may worsen herniated disks or pinched nerves.

Secondly, good circulation is crucial to keeping your mind alert & your body energized.Slouching tightens your chest & compreses your lungs – which means less oxygen makes its way into your bloodstream, leaving you stressed and tired.

Fewer headaches will have to be dealt with if you are watching your posutre. Gravity draws your head forward when you’re staring at a screen or driving for long periods of time.  Be alert to your posture & avoid some of those nagging headaches!

Poor posture also leads to shortening of the muscles over time.  This can lead to arthritis down the road.

Lastly, but not least important; digestion can be improved by better posture!  Slouching causes your stomach muscles to tighten, which can push stomach acid into your throat and cause heartburn.  By sitting or standing straight, your digestive system can work more efficiently.

Hope you found these tips helpful. I have to remind myself of them often (as I am a sloucher…but certainly not a slacker!  HA!)  :-)
